The South Dakota Board of Technical Professions (SDBTP) is a regulatory board charged with licensing and regulating the professional practice of architecture, engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture, and petroleum release services for the purpose of safeguarding public health, safety, and welfare in the State of South Dakota. A person must be licensed by the Board before being permitted to offer and provide these professional services on projects located within the State of South Dakota.

Primary responsibilities of the Board include:

• Reviewing applications
• Administering examinations
• Enrolling interns
• Licensing qualified professionals
• Communicating with licensees and the public regarding the laws, rules, and professional standards of practice of these professions
• Investigating complaints
• Conducting disciplinary proceedings where appropriate
• Restricting or revoking licenses when generally accepted standards of practice or conduct are not met
• Encouraging continuing professional development for those who practice the professions

The Board is self supporting and generates its revenues from fees charged to applicants and licensees. The Board meetings are open to the public, with meeting agendas and minutes posted on this website and on the State of South Dakota Boards and Commission portal after they have been prepared and approved.
